REUNION: Descendants of Watt and Julie Jarrell Lovejoy, Clifford and Hulda Lovejoy Stowers, Frank and Ealy Stowers and Frank Walls' family gather for its annual reunion Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Upper Mud River Dam. Those attending may bring a covered dish, dessert or food items, along with photos, to share. Lunch begins at 12:25 p.m. Eating utensils, assorted pop and bottled water are provided.
HIDE 'EM: A concealed weapon permit training for West Virginia residents begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Wayne Volunteer Fire Department. Ohio residents may attend the 8 a.m. class. Pre-registration is required. Call Dan Allen, 304-840-5800.
FALL FEST: A fall fest is in the making -- from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Trinity Chapel, 8th Street Road, Lavalette. Sincere, His Way and Gospel Tide sing. Inflatables are offered for the kids and refreshments are provided. Those attending may bring a chair.
RELATIVES: They are like my very own family -- Alice Wheeler, Martha "Aunt Mart" Karlet and Luanna Karlet, all from South Point's First Baptist Church. These fine ladies certainly know how to brighten my days.
BANK ON IT: First State Bank of Barboursville is banking on two female employees added to its staff. Nichole Janick is the new accounts manager for mortgage lending with the mortgage operations department. Bridgett Pratt is the assistant branch manager at the Huntington Kroger location.
GOING STRONG: Just like the Energizer Bunny -- Elder Gallie L. Robertson of Genoa, W.Va., keeps going and going -- he's going strong at age 100. The good Baptist preacher for 80 years still pastors the Macedonia Baptist Church, which he built on his property in 1959. Elder Gallie was honored with a 100th birthday celebration Aug. 16, at the Fort Gay Multipurpose Community Center. The celebration was hosted by daughter, Ethel Harvey, and grandchildren, Barbara Wilson, Bonnie Kilgore, Mary L. Thompson and Harold Curtis Harvey.
REGISTRATION: Village Dance Theatre conducts fall registration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the studio, 6041/2 Central Ave., Barboursville. Ballet, pointe, tap, jazz and preschool creative movement are grouped according to age. Mendi Stotts Starcher, former Marshall and NFL Carolina Panthers cheerleader, is the new jazz/hip hop instructor. Call Elizabeth Withers, director, 304-522-0463.
